My career journey so far...

I've been a writer for my entire life. It's what fills me with purpose every day  telling impactful stories that change the world. My specialty is looking at complex information  scholarship, data, interviews, historical records, geospatial information  and spinning it into accurate and broadly appealing stories that catch a reader or viewer's attention and give them a satisfying experience. I've had the pleasure of working with universities, researchers, leading tech companies, federal agencies, literary publishers, nonprofits, investment consultancies, students, and individuals. My articles have been shared by the MacArthur Foundation, my material on quantum computing circulated within prominent federal agencies, and I've fueled a major university rebranding with my writing and video directing.

My professional journey has been dynamic, with many fantastic learning moments across a variety of fields and subject areas. After majoring in English and theater at Oberlin College, I began my post-college storytelling life as the sole assistant editor of a full-length documentary that earned a Grand Jury Prize nomination at Sundance. Feeling a literary pull, I took a sharp turn and became a Renaissance literature scholar, but also studied Southern literature. I sought an M.F.A. in fiction writing at Louisiana State University, and for five years served on the editorial staff of one of the nation's top literary journals, The Southern Review, and as an assistant at LSU Press.  I also taught literature and writing at LSU as a postdoctoral scholar.

Upon returning to North Carolina, I focused on professional writing and editing, working for Our State Magazine, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, book publishers, the DC-based GovLoop, and sustainable investment consultancies. Over the past ten years, I've collaborated with many talented editors, graphic designers, and videographers, and I am so proud of the stories we told together. I've also interviewed many distinguished scientific scholars, government leaders, Pulitzer Prize winners, Grammy nominees, sociology researchers... the list goes on and on. I love to learn, and to ask the good questions so others can learn from my work. I also love to relay knowledge within a few lively phrases for a fun, momentary impression. I continue  my own creative writing as well, which includes collaborative scriptwriting.

What do all these experiences add up to? Well, basically, I'm prepared for whatever you throw at me, and I'll turn it into valued material. I love receiving and analyzing complex information and weaving it into palatable and enjoyable material for readers and viewers. Please view my portfolio to see my recent work. I hope you feel inspired and that we'll get to work together.
